New Skill:
This week, I focused on how to strum my Ukulele. I thought I had figured it out last week until I watched a tutorial on playing my first song and saw that it required a different type of strum. Last week, I was practicing using my thumb, as seen in a video tutorial by Cynthia Lin. However, I need a consistent motion of strumming up and down. A video by TenThumbs Production showed me the cords I need to know for my song and a walk-through of how to play it. During this video, I realized his strumming was different. This is when I went back to Google and did some more research. The video I’ve linked above showed me a technique for strumming up and down consistently. Cynthia Lin’s video was helpful. However, because I have long nails, strumming this way is challenging. I’ve decided to mimic how the guy in the TenThumbs video strums, even though he doesn’t specifically have a tutorial on how to do that. I found this video in a list of beginner songs on the Ukulele, and it is attached below.

Practice:
Now that I have found the way I wish to strum, I have been practicing it. I must get the strumming down before I try to add in cords. I have also been tuning my guitar each time before I play to ensure it is as proper as possible.
