There are many pros and cons to 3D design and printing. This workshop was very interesting and opened my eyes to a new concept. 3D design and printing are an excellent way to learn computer skills and force problem-solving and creativity. As someone with limited technological abilities, I had to focus on what was happening and used critical thinking to determine if my design would work properly when printed. The program we used, Tinkercad, was very user-friendly and free. A con to 3D design and printing is cost, time, and accessibility. Many schools don’t have the funds to supply 3D printers. The materials used to print these designs are also expensive. This makes the tool inaccessible to many students. I was interested in learning how long it takes to print one design. If many students have a design to print, it will take a long time to get their projects. I learned during this class how 3D printing can be used to help teach cross-curricular activities. Educators can print 3D letters for students to develop literacy skills or numbers to work on math. During the workshop, I designed a key chain. My key chain says “MissMady,” which I plan on putting on my lanyard as a fun way to interact with my students.

HOWDY MADY! I love your 3D print design it is awesome!!!! I hope you get to use it in your class 🙂 You make some really great points about how time consuming 3D printing is, as well as the realities of technological inaccessibilities in classrooms. You should totally make me a 3D print that says Miss Elena cause you’re a PRO.
