Reflection Topic 3: A flipped classroom could benefit my students as I want to teach grades 6 and 7. A flipped classroom could be helpful at this age as the content being taught is more advanced than in younger grades. Students at this age are also more accustomed to homework. I would not do a flipped classroom with lower elementary students, as they should have little to no homework. It’s hard enough for children at that age to sit and focus for 6 hours a day. The flipped classroom model in my classroom would consist of a video I’ve created (most likely a screen recording) of a lesson introducing a topic. This would allow me to use class time for homework and answering questions. This strategy is good because it will enable the teacher to help students through problems instead of sending the problems home as homework and the student getting suck on a question. A drawback is that the teacher must trust that the students are watching the video lectures. If some students don’t watch them, class time turns into re-teaching rather than clarifying. The tools H5P has to offer could be helpful with the grades I want to teach. Incorporating H5P into my video lecture during my flipped classroom would be a great way to engage my students and keep them focused. I am excited to learn more skills and tools that are available to me through H5P.
